8 Ways You Can Protect Your Skin During Winter

Winter season is especially not favourable for skin. With low humidity, there is a high tendency for moisture loss, resulting in chapped and flakky skin.
On this blog post, i will be sharing 10 proven ways on how to protect your skin during winter.

1. WASH IN LUKEWARM WATER
Hot showers and baths feels really good during the winter season, but they strip your skin of oils, making it dry. Lukewarm water is always the best choice.

2. MOISTURIZE IMMEDIATELY AFTER BATH/SHOWER
Moisture right after you wash. Applying moisture to damp skin helps seal that dampness into the skin. Keep a bottle near the bathtub, shower stall, and at every sink and use liberally every time you wash. When shopping for a moisturizer, choose an oil based moisturizer as opposed to water based which can actually dry your skin. Moisturizers with organic ingredients like chamomile, jojoba, almond and coconut oil are really great for your skin.

3. PROTECT YOUR SKIN
Get used to wearing gloves and scarves to protect skin from cold winds, rain, and snow. Also a good sunscreen would be wonderful.

4. HUMIDIFY
Having a humidifier in the home keeps the moisture, unlike an heating system that would dry out the air.

5. GET HYDRATED WITH WATER
We tend to drink less water in the winter because we turn to hot drinks like cocoa and tea, but don’t forget that your skin needs hydration from the inside, out. A little warm water with lemon can be very refreshing and hydrating at the same time.

6. EXFOLIATE
Moisture can’t get in if the dead cells on our skin are too plentiful. Find an exfoliating mask and use it on your face and your hands, as well as gently on your lips, then follow immediately with a moisturizer.

7. EAT FRUITS
Eat watermelon, cantaloupe, apples, oranges, kiwi, and watery veggies like celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and carrots. These fruits and veggies have a high water content.

8. USE HOMEMADE MASKS
Homemade hydrating masks can provide needed moisture in the winter months. Use natural moisturizing ingredients like honey, avocado, yogurt, olive and jojoba oils, almond oil, bananas, and aloe. Mix what you like together to create a cream or paste, and leave on skin for 10-30 minutes for lasting hydration.
